Dear
foundation board members,
I was asked by the foundation chairman to investigate
and report on the grant proposal concerning the OSU Second Chance program. After
visiting with the director of the program as well as the president of the college
we decided that if the foundation approves the request of $10,000 we would call
the grant "The Aldridge Foundation Project Second Chance Award". I am
100% in funding the entire amount. Here are the details concerning where the $
goes and whom it will benefit.
This supports 75 students all of which are
single parents trying to better their lives through education. These individuals
are living in section 8 housing projects and having to rely on food stamps etc.
just to keep their heads above water. The director is wanting to have our $10,000
earmarked to be applied towards books, tuition, lab fees etc. as the need presents
itself. The money will be placed into an account that will provide vouchers to
the students needing financial assistance in regards to their educational pursuits.
It will be made available to students who fall within the criteria of the program
only. We will receive a yearly detailed report concerning the who, what, when,
where, and why from the director. This award will be presented to recipients by
Dr. Jerry Carroll, President OSU OKC. I felt this would make the award "extra"
special and Dr. Carroll agreed to make the presentations.
In closing, I
remember what it was like struggling through my undergraduate degree. It was a
challenge to stay positive and focused due to financial woes and I had only myself
to take care of. These students we will be supporting are not only having to take
care of their own personal needs but their children's needs as well. Please consider
the impact we will be able to make.
Respectfully,
R. Aldridge,
TMKAF
